Care for a Glass of Toilet Water?

Popular Science:

Officials in Los Angeles said today that they’re going to reconsider a water conservation proposal that won’t just ask residents to change their habits, but calls for recycling wastewater, too.

The plan would place restrictions on watering lawns and washing cars, and it would encourage residents to switch to less thirsty washing machines. But the most controversial part of the initiative would involve recycling water – refilling underground drinking supplies with treated wastewater. Los Angeles has tried this before, but critics forced officials to drop it.

Aww, this reminds me of my late golden retriever. I know he would be down to drink some toilet water. Even if they made it totally safe, it’s probably just knowing that it used to be toilet water that makes people disinclined to drink it.

  1. OMGZ, you had a golden retriever TOO?! And it was a BOY? And now it’s DEAD?!!

pete doggles, we have way, WAY too much in common.

p.s. the bobblebot does not fear old toilet water!! Treated or UNtreated!!!

  2. Yeah, it was so sad, he died less than a year ago. Cutest dog ever, he was almost 12 yrs old. I remember I was a lil worried when I put him outside in the morning cuz it was pretty hot, so I made sure he was in the shade and had water. Then I was gone all day at this all-star weekend baseball thing in SF, when I got home he was dead (not cuz of the heat, he had some cancer.) But this old band I wss in, we wrote/recorded/performed a song about him a long time ago so he’s immortalized. What’s the story with your dog?

  3. Ours didn’t live as long. Max. 9 years old. Bone cancer. It was just so sad, it spread so badly he walked on only 3 legs at the end, with the front leg just slightly curled, but non-functioning. We put him to rest — or my sister did while I was at UCSB in class. From what she told me, he knew, and was just so scared at the end, it really just broke my heart to hear that, you know?

  5. not our family, but my sister did get this little Yorkie that’s kind of become the family dog of sorts. but he’s so different. i mean, you can’t ever really “replace” people. or dogs, in this case.

unless your blond and your name rhymes with Harris Pilton. UGH.
