This story is a couple of weeks old, but I just came across it. Hate crimes against Latinos have been on the rise, spurred on by the recent reincarnation of anti-immigrant hysteria. Denver Post:
Two teenagers pummeled a Latino man as he left a convenience store in Boulder Tuesday night, accusing him of “stealing our jobs,” according to Boulder police.
Police stepped in when they saw Abraham Paquet, 19, of Broomfield, and Joshua Ruzek, 19, of Lafayette shoving and hitting Ivan Ponce de Leon-Najera, 26, of Louisville outside the PDQ store on Manhattan Circle.
Police are calling it a bias-motivated crime, which under Colorado law could allow Leon-Najera to sue his attackers for civil damages, in addition to criminal charges they face. (article)
